On August 9, Sensity acquired Eutecus, an embedded software and configurable processor solutions provider for critical video and fusion analytics systems. The combined company will provide customers with leading computer vision powered solutions in a comprehensive IoT platform for Smart Cities.
Video Analytics With Intelligent Computer Vision for Smart Cities
Over 50% of the world population lives in urban areas, which creates new challenges. We need to make our cities more efficient and safe with smart technology that gives us information about the environment and what’s going on in it. When sensors collect large amounts of data it becomes a big data challenge and we cannot rely on human operators to process, extract and analyze large volumes of real-time information.
To cope with this enormous challenge we created our IoT solution and cloud platform (NetSense) for Smart Cities.
We are using video analytics to make cities more livable and enhance the experience for its citizens. Our NetSense Video nodes can:
- Provide real-time parking information that makes it easier to find a parking spot, increases a city’s parking revenue and makes overall parking management more efficient.
- Monitor traffic to reduce the number of traffic incidents and optimize traffic management
- Provide an extra layer of security with contextual awareness
Data-intensive sensing is only successful, however, if distributed intelligence can pick out critical data from the noise and turn it into valuable information. NetSense nodes have embedded advanced compute capacity that is powerful enough to perform real-time video analytics on raw HD video streams. This capability turns cameras not into mere recording devices but into high-value sensors.
Computer vision algorithms enables us to use video data along with other environmental data to analyze data and events and send alerts to cities and organizations. Video and multi-sensory analytics with computer vision can convert organizations and cities into smart cities that offer a safe and welcoming environment to people.
Our video and fusion analytics solutions are based on IP from a company we acquired in 2016, Eutecus, which has been developing video and multi-sensory analytics systems and solutions for both industrial and automotive applications for many years. Based on their Multi-Channel Video Analytics Engine (MVE) embedded into vision systems (ReCo) these analytics make use of real-time video-based algorithms that have the ability to ‘understand’ essential information in its context. Real-time alerts for events can be sent to a control center. Alerts such as when a parking space is occupied, when a high level of cars and pedestrians are crossing at a specific intersection or when a car is blocking the train tracks. These alerts can be sent to city officials that can take immediate action if necessary.
Sensity’s approach to public safety and security, traffic management and parking leverages the lighting infrastructure and incorporates distributed storage and processing, multi-sensory analytics, and a pervasive sensory network to improve these applications and services, while also protecting personal privacy. With this acquisition, the combination of Sensity’s technology and Eutecus’ computer vision system enables Sensity’s NetSense platform to convert raw video at the edge into real-time, actionable information so that vast amounts of high-definition (HD) video does not need to be transmitted over wireless networks to a human-monitored, centralized location for processing. As a result, Sensity is able to bridge the gap between cost and functionality while achieving a broad implementation of visual sensors for smart cities, malls, airports, stadiums, and campuses. Eutecus’ in-vehicle vision systems and solutions also enable extending Sensity’s intelligent lighting network to a collaborative dynamic infrastructure, further improving scene understanding and event interpretation for future applications.
